What all is the history of this family? Just wondering where my last name originates from.

Sigh. It's not good. The family line is that the motto means "Tolerate and hope". But I cannot believe that one of William the Conqueror's finest soldiers used that to propel him to victory. There's probably subtle, Christian-oriented semantics lost in translation that, I like to think, read more like: "Be courageous in adversity and trust in God." Shall we go with that?
